2019 Quilt Show: Fall Festival of Quilts

The Mohawk Quilt Club is pleased to sponsor its 2019 Quilt Show: Fall Festival of Quilts.  The show will be held Friday, September 6 from 10 AM to 5 PM, Saturday, September 7 from 10 AM to 7 AM, and  Sunday, September 8 from 11 AM to 3 PM. It will be at the Utica Curling Club, 8300 Clarks Mills Road, Whitesboro, NY.  The Utica Curling Club is handicapped accessible and parking is free. Admission is $5, with children under 12 free. New this year: a  food truck will be on site to quell anyone’s hunger, and Kids Can Sew, where each child will have the opportunity to create a fabric bag or pillow.  Instruction and all supplies are free of charge.

There will be approximately 200 quilts on display, and many will be critiqued by Mrs. Shirley Robinson.  Show attendees may vote for their favorite quilt which will be awarded the Viewer’s Choice Award.

The Hoffmann Challenge quilt  trunk show will be available to view.  One of members, Pam Kuhr has her quilt “Celestial Bling” in the collection.  It was awarded Best Workmanship for machine pieced wall hanging.

A special exhibit will be the lifetime works of charter member Anne Kinnel.

Twenty eight pieces will be displayed representing the eclectic nature of her quilting.

The club is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year with a member

challenge.  Each participant selected five silk ties (from  Anne Kinnel’s stash) and created a wall hanging, tote or article of clothing using all five ties.

Also featured at the show will be a Sales Boutique, Grandma’s Attic.  Hand crafted items, including quilts, pillowcases and Christmas ornaments will be available to purchase in the boutique.  Pieced quilt tops, gently used quilting tools and leftover projects will be offered for sale in Grandma’s Attic. More than a dozen vendors will offer hand dyed fabrics, threads, patterns and scissor sharpening.

Flower Renaissance, a queen sized hand appliqued quilt was constructed by Sally Majka and Kathie Chyrywaty quilted by Charlotte Colver.  It will be raffled off at the end of the weekend. Tickets will be available for purchase at the show.
